who said it was impossible to be a solitary that you have to be inntiated in a coven... i tried to tell him that yes you could do self devotion to wicca
anyways this is the email i got from him, i dotn want to start a debate becuse tehres no use in that but what should i do getting these angry messages? sarah:)
Subject: Don't know what I'm talking about, eh?

Message: I see that you never tried to answer my questions.
What type of religion is Wicca?
Who founded it and when?
What are the true names of the Lord and Lady?
State your coven and lineage.
What is the Elemental Weapon of Ether?

These are questions that any Wiccan should know the answer to. Also, it is not possible to be a solitary Wiccan. The only way to do that would be to leave your coven after being initiated (though why anyone would choose to do so is beyond me, as Wicca is a... whoops, almost gave the answer to the first question out. XD). You must be initiated to learn any of the oathbound Mysteries of Wicca. If you don't know the Mysteries, you can't call yourself Wiccan. Also, the only way to be initiated without being in a coven is NOT to "initiate yourself." That's basically saying "screw the Lord and Lady, I'm a Wiccan if I say I am!" You must be initiated either by a coven or by the Lord and Lady Themselves. In either case, you should be able to tell me their true names at LEAST. (Note: They're not just the Lord and Lady or the God and Goddess, they have real, unique names.)

MM Sarah,

Sounds like this guy read a few books and is now executing himself on being a Wiccan expert. I say blah blah blah! Looks like he's crediting Gerald Gardner as being the founder of Wicca, but probably doesn't know that Wicca is derived from branches of Pagan paths. And Pagan is a very general term. I wonder if he's even in a coven himself! I find it amusing that he says you can't be initiated into Wicca unless by the Lord and Lady or a coven. It's an oxymoron if you ask me, since when you do initiate yourself into Wicca it is through the God/dess since you evoke them to be present in your circle. As far as saying you don't just call them Lord and Lady or God/dess, what does he want to hear? Isis, Aphrodite, Osiris, Diana..... the list is endless! You say God/dess and Lord and Lady as a general term to describe a higher power, since many follow their own deity. And for covens, what, he wants you to list traditions? Ok Dianic, Gardnerian, Alexandrian... again endless list. He would be correct to say that you cannot call yourself a particular tradition as those trads are very specific in their ways and you must be a part of their coven. But you CAN say you are a solitary wiccan or witch. There's no one book for Pagans like the bible, nothing is written in stone, and even if it were like the other 3 major branches of religious worship, so much that does, since most of them are filled with bullshit anyway! I don't know who you are dealing with, but it sounds like a closed minded child. I would just ignore the person, or see what else he says...I'm quite curious! :p

Oh and you CAN learn the mysteries yourself, it's just a bit harder and takes time. And since you cannot cheat or go around what is or isn't reaveled to you, it doesn't matter if you do or don't have a teacher. That's just inevitable.
