Things That Are, That Were, That Shall Be
Scrying has much in common with trance, but it differs in that the tools used in scrying are physical objects rather than rhythmic techniques and also in that predictions are usually revealed to the practitioner visually as opposed to intuitively. This is not to imply that intuition is unnecessary, just that the information communicated to you during scrying will be interpreted primarily through visual clues rather than thoughts and feelings. The most important aspect of successful scrying is concentration. To gain the benefits of scrying, concentration must be earnestly cultivated and remains unbroken. Scrying is used to obtain information about a circumstance that would otherwise remain hidden. This can include knowledge, insight, or a glimpse into the future. Often, scrying will reveal three things: things that have already come to pass, things that are active in the present moment, and things that are yet to be. The accuracy of the past and present images will give you the sense of whether or not the future prophecy is a genuinely possible outcome. Only the scryer will be able to ascertain in the truthfulness and the desirability of the omen. Always remember that because we are creatures who possess free will, no vision granted during a scrying session is carved in stone; rather, it is revealed through the mist, which is fluid and changeable. It is the individual Witch who will affect her/his future the most, either by taking action or avoiding action. The path that we choose will have more impact on any outcome than mere portent. The purpose of seeking clarity in scrying is so that we can decide which path to take to bring about or circumvent the prediction as it is revealed.
