I haven't really gotten around to asking about this until now but I was wondering if anyone would know anything about some of these headstones I've seen. The newest one is from 1903 and all three I saw were womans gravestones but all of them had these beautiful pentigrams on them. I wish I had picture of them but they were all so gorgeous.

However, I was wondering if anyone would know why these would be found on tombstones from this long back and in a very, very heavily Luthern community.

I can rule out immediately that they weren't Wiccan, but...
I see 3 other possibilities here:

They might have been of some other pagan denomination.
They might have been occultists(Crowley used the pentagram, too).

More likely... Christians from a long time ago used the pentagram either as an equivilant to or in place of the crucifix. To them it was symbolic of Christ's 5 wounds; feet, hands, and thorned crown. I haven't heard of it being used this way during that time, however...

Course that's just what I've learned.

I don't know how long Christians considered it an evil symbol... might be somethin' to look into! :)

Thanks kitsune, I’ve been wondering about them sense the summer and they’ve always stuck me as curious for around here. Your last reason seems most likely though sense this is a very small (the population has never his more than 250 in the 108 years of its existence) and the only real religions have been Lutherans and Catholics(very few may I add).

The pentagram used to be a shared christian symbol. Sorry I can't remember the time period.
