cannibalism, moral or not?

from what i gather, cannibalism is one of those things that people really would rather not talk about, but since it is a taboo, i feel the inherent urge to discuss it.

so, why is it so reviled? .... rhetorical question, i think its been a taboo because it is the eating of another human being. now, i understand why people would be disgusted by the thought of eating someone, but from a nutritional standpoint, eating another human would be more nutritious than eating the same amount of chicken. and to tell you the truth, i would not actively go out and hunt another human being just to eat him/her, but if i were stuck on a mountain or trapped somewhere with no food and my buddy just died, i would eat him/her to survive. it may make me appear to be a lunatic, and i will accept any ridicule i will more than likely receive, but if it means i live, than i don't care. well, thats all that i was able to think of. i know I'm a philosophical nut job, and my moral compass may seem to be spinning to you, but you must understand, when it comes down to it, we are animals, and bigger brains and opposable thumbs are just adaptations that have made survival for us much easier for us than other creatures.

self defense

I'm a big advocate of self defense, if some one threatens my life or the life of some one i love, than i feel it is my duty to defend myself or the one i care for, whatever the cost. but there are those out there who would say that i would wrong to defend my life by taking the life of one who was about to end my own. to those people i have one thing to say, and have told them in discussion many times:

"i would rather die defending my life or the life of some one i care about than die begging for mercy"

now i can almost hear the outrage and disagreement of those who will read this and disagree. i honestly don't care, i will listen to what you have to say, but i highly doubt you will change my opinion about this. you attack me, i attack back, with a knife, pistol, bare hands, what ever i have at my disposal to see to it that little harm comes upon me. i just thought of some thing too, there are fluffy bunnies (one book wiccans, McWiccans... ect) who will give me the whole "harm none" load of crap, well this article should pretty much sum up my opinion:

http://wicca.timerift.net/rede.shtml

and for those of you who are not compelled to read the article, ill sum it up for you. the wiccan rede is (more or less) "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will", not just "harm none", but it is impossible to do no harm at all, i believe that it means do as little harm as possible, for those who need further explanation, read the article.

well thats all for now, i have made my points and would be glad to hear what you have to say about them. but until next time, merry meet, and merry moot ( im not sure if merry moot is the correct thing to say )

Lol Rob, you crack me up! It's interesting too that we have some similar thoughts. I've been backing cannibalism for ages! I figure, why not solve 2 birds with 1 stone. End world hunger, and over population? Besides people eat meat all the time, why not eating humans? It's like you said, we're just evolved animals.

And ya, I too would kick ass if someone assaulted me. But I think that more people have this mentality more than "harm none." Just take a look at the news. Besides doesn't the bible say "An eye for an eye?"

that is a very good point silver,:signthankspin: and it solves another problem, you don't have to bury bodies that have been eaten, and you could use the human waste generated to be made into fertilizer to grow crops.

Bah! I'm going to have to argue that one. Being that I choose not to eat carcasses, I'd rather not have it sprinkled over my veggies either! :whack:
