Well, I think the only danger would be not knowing how to use the tools to resurface or build the altar! Otherwise, I think it's a great idea, and more personal as well. You can add your own embellishments or carvings too. Have fun!

I have actually a very funny story to go along with this. I don't really have an altar because I still live with my mom to help her out and so it is kind of hush hush I am wiccan. But I wanted to build this kind of big box for my stuff and that i could set up as an altar. Well I am a challenged person and lets just say it was rather entertaining to see me work on this creation that ended up in a burn pile. So finally I broke down and let my boyfriend do it for me.

But it is a great idea just be careful. It will make it more personal and you can make it to whatever you what it to be which is great. Good luck with it.

I would also say BUILD IT!

My wife and I built ours out of a round unfinished table top from lowes, and a pedastal. The cool thing about it was we got to have a clean slate to engrave the wood any what we wanted. So using transfer paper we put in the designs and wording, then used a wood burning tool to etch it into the surface. Stain, clear coat, and viola!

It was very fun and completely personal!

I think everything you make yourself embeds your own personal energy into it, making it that much more magical....

Yeah see i am not all that skilled. So I tend to have my boyfriend do it for me. He is a little better at it, but I am getting the hang of some of it. In the end though I think I will just stick with my garden. lol

It’s all made out of sticks. The alter is very small. I'm working on a smaller one. The other piece is my wand. Also made of sticks with a quarts stone on the end. I use a very magickal process to make to redefine the shape of the wood called boiling wood. The only thing that I see that could be dangerous is that you might get a splinter.

I found my altar....or rather, it seemed to have found me at a local flea market. It is small, but absolutely perfect for me. It was tucked away in a dark corner like it was waiting for me to come along and find it. When I saw it I had a feeling and just knew it was meant to be.

I agree with everyone else when I say yay, its more personal and Im sure the fact that you have built it yourself it will be alot more personal and nicer x
