do runes and taroh cards need to be given as a gift?

hello all, i have a question that has popped into my head several times, some places i have read state that runes and tarot cards need to be given as a gift and others state that they can be purchased by the user themself, these are both also stated by some people i have asked, so i am bringing the question here, do runes and tarot cards need to be bought as a gift for someone else of can that person buy them as their own?

In my personal opinion, they DO NOT need to be given as a gift. My tarot cards where given as a gift and I have never really connected with them. On the other hand, I bought all my oracle cards for myself and have a wonderful connection with them.

I think that a person needs to choose the cards they are drawn to and if they are given to you, how can that have happened....

that is something that has puzzled me for quite a while, i think the only why you could know which one calls to the person you are buying for would only be if you had such a close connection to the person that you are able to in some way tap into their energies while you are at the store just to feel which one calls to them

I heard that as well. I was told that you should wait till they are given to you as a gift. But I agree that it would be better to chose them yourself, as you would have a better connection. I also can look at it, as if a person saw those cards and thought of you and thought that you should have them, then maybe that connection is so strong it reached out to someone else to get to you. Either way they are given to you, i believe you create a connection with them as you use them and learn with them.

I also think you should have more than one deck. One that you use for others (if you perform readings for others) and one just for yourself. If you keep a deck that you use just for you, then your connection with those cards isn't touched with other people's energies. this is my opinion only. You chose what is right for you. If it feels right to buy them yourself, then i would.

I agree with eden, both of my rune sets i bought myself i gave one set to my wife when i got the second set, for my birthday last year my wife gave me a set of dragon tarot cards both my wife and I are spirit twins and we share the tarot cards thus far they have proven to be very reliable for the both of us and we plan to hand them down from generation to generation as we believe part of our spirit will be as well with each birth that enters the family :)
