Hello, I'm very happy to have found this forum, it seems to be overflowing with wiccan knowledge. I'm an artist that makes wands at staffs at http://kurthworks.com, and I sell a lot of wands to my wonderful wiccan friends. I was wondering if you may tell me what you look for in a wand? Thanks

I would never buy a wand, because I believe that it is something that you should do yourself. Ask the tree, give it an offering, make some stain if you want to color it, carve it yourself, then cast a circle on a sabbat (which one will effect the nature of the wand) and bless it.
The tree should be special to you, too. Everyone should have a couple of "special" trees.

I think you should go with your instincts in this regard.
My first wand was made from the branch of a tree which was very special to me. It was actually in someone else's garden and I always admired and 'talked' to it, then one day they were trimming it and one of the branches fell outside their property, almost like it was there just for me. I picked it up, thanked the tree and made a wand from it. Plain and simple, no frills or fancies.
My second wand I bought cause the moment I saw it, I knew I had to have it. Its wood with a quartz crystal at the top and a dragon on the top part of the wand/crystal. It also has copper wire wound round it for grounding.

A wand is like any other tool you use and should be a personal choice. I have made my own wand from a branch off a willow tree. It was from a branch that had fallen off the tree itself so I thanked the tree and then procceded to make my wand.
The wand you choose should be one that talks to you. If you buy it it should jump out at you. If you make it do so from a tree that has meaning for you.
